RSA CELEBRATES 300 YEARS BY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

July 12, 2010 – Leading home, car and business insurer RSA celebrated its 300th anniversary by fundraising, volunteering and donating various items to local charities.

Employees across the country have raised $241,000, volunteered 5,200 hours and donated 56,000 items to charities in the communities where they live and work. Around the globe, RSA employees raised approximately $1.1 million, volunteered 37,000 hours and donated 200,000 items to charities. The campaign ran from April 7 to June 25, and each employee was given one day off work to volunteer in their community.

“RSA is one of the oldest insurance companies in the world and we have a long history of enabling progress here in Canada as insurance provinders on some high profile and historical sites. I’m proud of the work that our employees have done to celebrate our 300th birthday and give back to the communities where we live and do business,” says President & CEO Rowan Saunders.

National campaign, local benefits

Employees from St. John’s, Dartmouth, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Mississauga, Calgary, Vancouver, Kelowna, Nanaimo and Victoria participated in raising money, volunteering, and donating items to more than 100 local charities. Some of the key charities supported include: the United Way, the World Wildlife Federation, WICC, the Canadian Cancer Society, local food banks, and local Humane Societies and SPCAs.

“United Way recognizes the long-standing support of RSA and its employees on the occasion of your landmark anniversary,” says Julia Gorman, Vice President of Resources Development at United Way. “RSA’s long-standing partnership with United Way has provided critical support for a network of agencies offering vital social services to hundreds of thousands of people… Thank you to all RSA employees for your continued involvement with United Way.”

"Thanks to RSA for its continued support of WICC and our fight against cancer. This year, RSA employees raised $27,000 helping WICC raise $225,000 at Relay for Life. Thanks for your hard work -- it is making a difference. And happy 300th," says Barb Reddick, Executive Director of WICC.
