Toronto, Ontario – May 31, 2021 – In Canada, preventable collisions continue to be major issue for road users, with the vast majority being caused by driver error or driving conditions. To help educate the public and encourage safe driving, Consolidated Collision Services (CCS) is donating more than $5,000 to the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) to fund road safety education. The donation marks the first anniversary in a three-year partnership between CCS, TIRF and RSA Canada and its affiliate insurers, Canadian Northern Shield Insurance Company (CNS) and Western Assurance Company (WA).
“We are thrilled to be partnered with TIRF and RSA Canada on this initiative to promote driver safety across the country,” says Mike Beier, General Manager, Consolidated Collision Services. “The research reminds us that safe roads are no accident, but require care and consideration from all road users.”
As part of the partnership, CCS is donating $5 to TIRF on behalf of each RSA Canada, CNS, and WA customer over three years to support ongoing educational resource development around traffic fatalities, key risks, and causes. The donations are made based on the number of repairs completed at CCS locations in the seven provinces where the company operates (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland).
“Avoidable road crash injuries and fatalities continue to take place across the country,” says Robyn Robertson, President and CEO, TIRF. “Transferring knowledge and research into relatable and accessible educational tools is critical to address these issues and make the roads safer for all.”
Over the last year, TIRF has developed educational resources on the dangers of speeding and over-reliance on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Educational materials on the topics are available to all Canadians on TIRF’s website and to RSA Canada, CNS, and WA customers who are completing auto repairs at CCS locations.
“The program provides us with the perfect opportunity to promote driver safety with our customers and staff in the moment when collisions are top of mind,” says Victoria De Tina, Collision Centre Manager, Performance Collision Grimsby. “The fact sheets allow us to highlight the risks that we all face on the roads, as well as our shared responsibility to keep the roads safe.”
The donation from CCS will continue to fund the development of road safety educational resources over the next year, on topics such as distracted driving and the impact of fatigue on drivers.
The materials are designed to help Canadians identify key risks in each area and develop strategies to avoid potential injuries or fatalities.
