ACCOMMODATION FOR JOB APPLICANT WITH DISABILITY POLICY

OBJECTIVE

Within the RSA group of Companies, we provide equal access and opportunities to job applicants with disabilities. RSA group of Companies will provide reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with disabilities in the job application process.

 

PURPOSE

This policy provides guidelines regarding the accommodation of qualified job applicants with disabilities, as defined in the Ontario Human Rights Code, including the Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act, for RSA group of Companies

 

ELIGIBILITY

This policy applies to all qualified job applicants with a disability who may require reasonable accommodations during the hiring process.

 

PROCESS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

RSA group of Companies will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified job applicants with a disability during the hiring process. RSA group of Companies will notify qualified job applicants, when they are selected to participate in an assessment or selection process that accommodations are available upon request.  If a qualified job applicant requests an accommodation, RSA group of Companies will consult with the qualified job applicant and provide reasonable accommodations according to the applicant’s accessibility needs due to his/her disability.   When making offers of employment to the successful applicant, the successful applicant will be notified of the policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.

 

Definition:

  1. An individual with a disability is a person with a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activities that the average person in the general population can perform
  2. Reasonable accommodation is defined as a modification or adjustment to the job application process or the work environment that enables a qualified job applicant with a disability to be considered for a position that will not cause "undue hardship" to the employer
  3. Qualified job applicant with a disability is defined as one who possesses the required  skills, education, experience and training for a position, and who can, with reasonable accommodation, perform the essential functions of the position the individual desires or holds
